Set on 19 acres of Negril, Jamaica’s, sparkling Seven Mile Beach, Couples Swept Away is a 24-hour, all-inclusive resort. From the moment you arrive at this couples-only escape, you’ll be in awe of the Caribbean paradise unfolding before you. Exotic flowers bloom amidst acres of green flora on seven miles of the purest white-sand beach on the island. Dotted among the tropical gardens, there are open-air cafes, small pool enclaves, and fresh-fruit oases for you to discover. Never crowded or hurried, the resort offers an intimate tranquility and, when desired, total seclusion.
With 312 Caribbean-style rooms and suites, all with a private balcony or verandah, Couples Swept Away is your home away from home. All rooms embrace a quiet elegance, with cedar furnishings and pure, white linens. Plantation shutters open onto the verandah with views of gardens and the azure sea.
We’ve Been There
The “Capital of Casual” says it all! – review by Brandon Smith
The first thing you notice when you walk up to the open air lobby of Couples Swept Away is all of the foliage, huge flowers and plants and the cucumber smell of clean. The property basically has an East Side and West side where you’ll find most of your common areas such as The Palms restaurant for your main buffets, Patios for the Caribbean flavors, Lemon Grass for Asian-style with a view of the ocean and the Cabana Grill which is where you get your all day and late night Jamaican patties! Plus at night the Piano Bar was a lot of fun and only a short walk from any room in the property. A few couples I met didn’t even know it was there!
In the middle of the property is where you’ll walk the tropical pathways and see that there are three rows of buildings (I don’t think I ever walked the same exact path twice). The Garden Verandah Suites (this is the room type I had) which are located furthest from the beach and close the main road. The Atrium Suites are more in the middle of the property and these suites are what Couples became famous for. They are like little bungalows with general décor, hammocks on the balcony and NO TV in the room. And then you’ve got your Ocean Verandah Suites which have a slight partial ocean view but cannot be booked as a beach front or ocean view by any means. And then lastly the Beach Front Deluxe Suites and up from there. I met a couple from England who were on their 25th trip to this resort which is not uncommon for Couples guests to visit many times in their lives and they had a Beach Front Suite. The location was fantastic but the price is hard to justify when the whole property is so small and close to the beach.
Insider Tip: If you’re a fan of room service, this is not the place for you. If you’re looking for a new, modern chic resort with all the new bells and whistles, this is not the resort for you. But if you’re looking for laid back luxury, amazing beach front, sunsets, awesome food, wonderful staff, fun guest and activities for free like scuba, snorkel, water skiing, glass bottom boat rides plus a catamaran trip down the coast toward Rick’s café every day, THIS IS the place for you!
I really loved my stay here, only wish the rooms were a little nicer but this property isn’t going to change and that’s why so many people come back here year after year after year. The value of this beach front and overall adult only resort atmosphere is hard to beat on the entire island of Jamaica. I give it a 4.5 star rating in my opinion.
